Why we like taking Kias in
Kia is a smaller part of our history than Vauxhall or Ford, but it is a growing part of what we buy, and there is a reason for it. Kias of the last fifteen years were built to win people over, and the cars reflect that: solidly screwed together, simply engineered and generally sold to people who then looked after them.
They also tend to come to us with a genuine history. The seven-year warranty Kia offered from new pushed owners into having the car serviced properly and on time, because skipping a service voided it. Long after that warranty has expired, the paperwork it produced is still there in the folder, and a used car with an honest, complete service record is worth having.
One thing to be clear about: on a car of the age we sell, that original seven-year manufacturer warranty is long gone. It ran from the date of first registration, not from the date you buy it, and it does not transfer to you as a fresh seven years. What you get from us instead is 12 months MOT, a full service and a 3-month engine and gearbox warranty, the same as on every other car here.
The models we see most
Picanto
A proper small car — short, light, easy to see out of and easy to place on a narrow street. Cheap on insurance, cheap on fuel, and much better finished inside than most things at the price. A very good first car and an even better second one.
Rio
The supermini a step up from the Picanto. Noticeably more room in the back and in the boot, still cheap to run, and comfortable enough to take further afield. Probably the sweet spot of the range for most people.
Cee'd
Family-sized, with a proper boot and enough space in the back for adults. If a Rio is not quite enough car, this is the sensible next move without stepping into a different running-cost bracket.
How we prepare them
Whatever the badge, the process is the same. At least 50 miles on the road and a mechanical health check before the car is advertised, and if something is wrong it is put right or the car does not go up for sale. Then 12 months MOT, a full service before handover and a 3-month engine and gearbox warranty.
We do not have a sales team. You will be dealing with Lex, who bought the car, drove it and knows what has been done to it. If you want to know something specific about a particular car, ask — you will get a straight answer.
Coming to see one
We are at Pavilion Garage on Somerset Terrace, a short run from the town centre and easy from the A64. Open Monday to Friday, 9 until 5. Please call or WhatsApp 07900 910 588 before you set off: cars have to be collected and viewed, so the forecourt is not manned every hour of the day, and a phone call means the car you want is out, unlocked and ready.
Part exchange is welcome subject to appraisal, and we will buy your car outright even if you are not buying one from us.
