Buying a used car in Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a big place to shop for a car, and where you buy changes the experience far more than most people expect. The big supermarket sites off the motorways move enormous volumes and price accordingly, but you will rarely speak to the same person twice. The main dealer franchises in York, Leeds and Hull are excellent at what they do and priced to match. And then there are independents like us.

We sit at the coastal end of North Yorkshire, in Scarborough, and we have been doing this for over 25 years. We are not the biggest and we do not try to be. What we offer instead is simple: a small number of cars that have each been chosen deliberately, checked properly, and are being sold by the person who bought them in.

For a lot of buyers across Yorkshire that trade-off is worth a drive. You get one point of contact from first phone call to handing over the keys, and if something needs sorting afterwards you ring the same number and get the same person.

Where our customers come from

Scarborough is our home, but the Yorkshire coast is well connected and a good car is worth travelling for. Customers reach us regularly from across the region:

• Filey — 8 miles down the A165, about 15 minutes
• Bridlington — 17 miles on the A165, roughly half an hour
• Malton — 23 miles straight along the A64, about 30 minutes
• Whitby — 21 miles across the moors on the A171, about 35 minutes
• York — 41 miles, a clear run down the A64 in around 50 minutes
• Driffield and the Wolds — around 25 miles via the A166 and A165

Scarborough also has direct rail links from York, Leeds, Malton and Seamer, so coming over by train to collect a car is genuinely practical. Tell us roughly when you will arrive and we will make sure the car is out, warm and ready to drive.

What every car comes with

Whatever the price, every car leaves us the same way:

• 12 months MOT — not "MOT until March", a full twelve months
• A full service before it is handed over
• 3 months engine and gearbox warranty
• A 50-mile road test and a mechanical health check by our own mechanic before it is ever advertised

That applies to the cheapest car on the forecourt just as much as the dearest. It is the reason our stock is smaller than a supermarket's, and it is the thing we would want if we were the ones buying.
